The Ben Schafer Family tours NE Iowa

At the trout hatchery in Decorah (see them swimming in there?)

Margaret feed some fish.

The fish whip into a frenzy when they think Caroline is going to feed them (or maybe they think Amy will feed Caroline TO them).

Hiking at Effigy Mounds National Monument.

Margaret checks out Big Bear Mound.

Margaret and Caroline on the Bluffs above the Mississippi.

Margaret's first picture.

The whole family.

A picnic lunch over the Mississippi.

Daddy's three spooks at Spook Cave.

Eating Gunderburgers at "The Irish Shanti" in Gunder, Iowa

The small town of Gunder, Iowa doesn't have much in it.  It DOES however have a restaurant famous for serving Gunderburgers.  These burgers are a blend of Iowa beef and a secret mix of spices (and yes, the seasoning does make a difference).  The true Gunderburger comes in at 1 pound COOKED weight and comes optional with onions and mushrooms (And I recommend them.  It helps round out the flavor a bit).

NOT, a Gunderburger.  Simply a "cheeseburger with the works"  It probably weighed in at about 1/2 a pound of meat.  Amy couldn't finish hers.

Now THAT is a Gunderburger.  Notice it is served a normal sized bun.  I ended up trimming off all the extra meat so I could pick it up and eat the first half pound.

And yes, I finished the whole thing.

Caroline shows off her cheeseburger.

Margaret too.

Playing on the train at the Osborne Nature Center in Clayton County.

Caroline works the main controls...

While Margaret works the brakes.
